48 Hours in Manchester: What's Actually On (9–11 Oct 2026)
Professor Brian Cox on Friday and The Pussycat Dolls on Saturday, both at Co-op Live, Band of Horses at Albert Hall, and Manchester Storm on the ice on Sunday afternoon. Real dates, real tram times, below.
Friday evening
The Friday most people have already booked is Professor Brian Cox: Emergence World Tour — Co-op Live, Fri 9 Oct, 6.30pm, price on the door / ticketer (tickets). It's a physics lecture in an arena, which sounds odd until you're in it. Co-op Live sits next to the Etihad, not in town, so leave Piccadilly on the tram by 5.30pm and eat at the Etihad-side food stands on the campus rather than hunting for a restaurant.

Want guitars instead of galaxies? Amon Amarth — O2 Apollo Manchester, Fri 9 Oct, 5.30pm, price on the door / ticketer (tickets) opens that early because Orbit Culture and Soilwork are on first — eat in town before, the Apollo is on Stockport Road with little around it. Prefer a seat and a singalong? Hue and Cry + Roachford — Bridgewater Hall, Fri 9 Oct, 7.30pm, price on the door / ticketer (tickets) is the central one, five minutes from Oxford Road station.
Down to your last twenty? The Crooks - Manchester — Night And Day Cafe, Fri 9 Oct, 7.30pm, from £14 (+ booking fee, £15.68 total) (tickets) is the cheapest night on this page, full stop — there's nothing free this weekend that we could verify. Night & Day is on Oldham Street in the Northern Quarter; Bundobust on Piccadilly (££, vegetarian Indian street food, get the okra fries) is five minutes away and doesn't need a booking on a Friday.
Saturday
Nothing in our verified list starts before 6pm on Saturday, so take the day: the Northern Quarter for coffee and record shops, then fifteen minutes on foot to Ancoats for lunch. Eat properly, because every Saturday event kicks off between 6pm and 7pm and you won't fit a sit-down dinner in after that.
Saturday night
Tonight's big one: The Pussycat Dolls: PCD FOREVER TOUR — Co-op Live, Sat 10 Oct, 6.30pm, price on the door / ticketer (tickets). It's the 20th-anniversary tour with Lil' Kim and Deja Vu as special guests. The Birmingham opener still had standard seats when we checked in August, so this isn't a sell-out panic — but book before you travel, not after. Same Co-op Live advice as Friday: tram out early, food on the campus.

If arena pop isn't you, Saturday has two guitar nights at opposite scales and neither is a bad one to have. Band of Horses - Celebrating 20 Years of Everything All The Time — Albert Hall, Sat 10 Oct, 7pm, price on the door / ticketer (tickets) plays the whole first album in a converted chapel on Peter Street — the room is the reason to go. The Hu — O2 Apollo Manchester, Sat 10 Oct, 7pm, price on the door / ticketer (tickets) is Mongolian throat-singing over metal drums on the Warrior Chant Tour. Albert Hall if you want to hear every line, the Apollo if you want to feel it in your chest.

Eat before Albert Hall at Rudy's Pizza on Peter Street (££, Neapolitan pizza, the Peppe with lemon ricotta and bresaola) — same street, forty minutes in and out. For the Apollo, eat in town first.
Three more if none of those fit. Want strings and a nave? Ibiza Proms In Manchester Cathedral — Manchester Cathedral, Sat 10 Oct, 6.30pm, £45.65 (tickets) is a 40-piece orchestra playing club classics until 11pm, and the one Saturday ticket with a confirmed price. Heavier? Creeper — Manchester Academy, Sat 10 Oct, 7pm, price on the door / ticketer (tickets) is on Oxford Road and in Glasgow the next night, so it's this or nothing. Pop in a smaller room? Ruel — Manchester New Century Hall, Sat 10 Oct, 7pm, price on the door / ticketer (tickets) is ten minutes from the Northern Quarter on foot.
Still standing after any of them? Interplanetary Criminal — Depot Mayfield, Sat 10 Oct, 7pm, price on the door / ticketer (tickets) is UK garage in the Warehouse Project's home behind Piccadilly station; 7pm is doors, not peak. One to check rather than assume: Manchester Storm vs Nottingham Panthers — AO Arena, Sat 10 Oct, 6pm, price on the door / ticketer (tickets) is flagged as rescheduled on Ticketmaster, though AO Arena's own listing still had it on 10 Oct as of 2 Oct 2026. Check the ticket page before you buy; if it's moved, Sunday's fixture is the same team, same rink.
Sunday
Sunday afternoon is the hockey. Manchester Storm vs Sheffield Steelers — AO Arena, Sun 11 Oct, 2.30pm, price on the door / ticketer (tickets) is Elite League ice hockey against a Yorkshire rival, and AO Arena sits on top of Victoria station — the Corn Exchange cafés are five minutes away for a coffee first. Rather be outdoors? Sale Sharks v Harlequins — CorpAcq Stadium (Salford Community Stadium), Sun 11 Oct, 3pm, price on the door / ticketer (tickets) is Premiership rugby, but the ground is in Barton, Salford — about 20 minutes from the centre by car, or tram plus a walk. I'd take the ice: closer, indoors, and October in Salford is October in Salford.
Finish on a laugh: Nurse Georgie Carroll: Infectious — Manchester Academy, Sun 11 Oct, 7.30pm, price on the door / ticketer (tickets) is stand-up from an Australian nurse on Oxford Road, on the way back to Piccadilly if you're catching a late train. Bundobust on Piccadilly works again for an early Sunday dinner.
If you only do one thing: The Pussycat Dolls: PCD FOREVER TOUR — Co-op Live, Sat 10 Oct, 6.30pm, price on the door / ticketer (tickets). A 20-year reunion with Lil' Kim on the bill doesn't come round again; Band of Horses tour the same album elsewhere, this doesn't.
The practical bit
Manchester Piccadilly is the main station and puts you in the centre on foot — the Northern Quarter is ten minutes, Albert Hall fifteen. From Manchester Airport, the tram into Piccadilly Gardens takes about 45 minutes; a taxi is roughly £30–£35.
Co-op Live is the one venue to plan for: it's next to the Etihad Stadium in east Manchester, not in town. Take the Metrolink from Piccadilly to Etihad Campus — about 15 minutes — and allow extra on the way back, because the whole arena shares one platform. AO Arena is on top of Victoria station; the O2 Apollo in Ardwick is a 20-minute walk from Piccadilly or a short taxi.
Budget: only two prices on this page are confirmed — Ibiza Proms at £45.65 and The Crooks at £14 — and the arena shows sell at whatever the seat map says that day. Count on roughly £250–£400 per person for two nights with one arena ticket, one smaller gig and food.
